Remove the contact protector first
The Argus Matrix ships with a pod pre-installed in the device. Before you take your first puff, check the base of the pod for a thin plastic contact protector and pull it free. If the pod is not detected, that film is almost always the culprit.
Filling your pod
The Argus Matrix uses top-fill Argus V2 pods. Uncover the filling port on the top of the pod and pour your e-liquid in steadily. VooPoo recommend keeping the pod at least two-thirds full to maintain consistent wicking. Replace the cap firmly before inserting the pod back into the device.
UK TPD note: pods sold in the UK hold 2 ml of e-liquid, which is the legal limit for refillable tanks and pods under TPD regulations.
Prime before you vape
After filling, wait approximately five minutes before taking your first draw. This gives the mesh coil inside the pod time to fully saturate with liquid. Skipping this step is the single most common cause of a dry, burnt first hit. Once primed, the device fires automatically on your inhale.
Which e-liquid to use
The kit comes with two pods and the choice of coil guides your liquid selection:
- 0.4 Ω pod: designed for a more open, restricted-direct-to-lung draw at higher wattage. Use a higher-VG shortfill or 50/50 freebase e-liquid at 3 mg or 6 mg nicotine. Thinner 50/50 blends wick quickly and work well here.
- 0.7 Ω pod: tighter, MTL-style draw at lower wattage. Nic salts are the natural pairing, and a 10 mg or 20 mg salt will give a satisfying throat hit without harshness. Standard 50/50 freebase at 6 mg to 18 mg also works well.
The Argus Matrix uses an automatic power system that reads coil resistance and sets wattage for you. You can manually adjust within the output range if you prefer, but most vapers will find the auto setting perfectly usable straight out of the box.

- Screen shows E1 and the device won't fire The screen displays E1 and the device refuses to fire. This means the device cannot detect the cartridge, even though it appears to be seated.
- Screen shows E2 and the light flashes red twice The screen displays E2 and the indicator light flashes red twice. The device has detected a short circuit and stopped firing as a safety measure.
- Screen shows E3 and the device cuts out mid-puff The screen displays E3 and the indicator light flashes six times in red, then the device stops firing mid-puff. This happens during a long, continuous draw.
- Screen shows E4 and the device has stopped firing The screen displays E4 and the device refuses to fire. The indicator light shows red for around five seconds before the device cuts out.
Frequently asked questions
What pods are compatible with the Argus Matrix?
The kit ships with two Argus V2 top-fill pods (0.4 Ω and 0.7 Ω). It is also compatible with a wider range of VooPoo Argus V2 pods, including different resistances from 0.7 Ω up to 1.2 Ω. Check that any replacement pods are labelled Argus V2 top-fill to ensure a proper fit and correct auto-power detection.
How do I know what the lights mean on the Argus Matrix?
The LED indicator on the Argus Matrix communicates device status clearly. A solid white light means it is firing. One red flash means no pod is detected. Two red flashes indicate a short circuit. Five red flashes signal low battery. A flashing green light means it is charging, and a solid green means fully charged.
How long does the battery last and how do I charge it?
The built-in 1350 mAh battery charges via USB-C at 5 V / 2 A. Actual battery life depends on wattage and how frequently you vape, but the 1350 mAh capacity is on the larger side for a pod kit of this size and should comfortably cover a full day for most vapers. Do not leave charging unattended for extended periods.
Why am I getting a burnt taste from my Argus Matrix pod?
A burnt taste almost always means the coil is not fully saturated. Fill the pod, then wait at least five minutes before vaping. If the taste persists on a pod you have been using for a while, the coil may simply be due for replacement. Running the pod consistently low on liquid also accelerates coil wear.
Can I use the Argus Matrix with nic salts?
Yes. The 0.7 Ω pod is well suited to nic salts up to 20 mg/ml, which is the maximum nicotine strength permitted under UK TPD regulations. The tighter MTL draw on the 0.7 Ω coil complements the smoother throat hit that nic salts deliver at higher concentrations.
