Set up guide & tips
Choosing Your Battery Version
The Aegis Solo 3 comes in two versions: built-in 3000mAh battery and an external 18650 version. The built-in model is the simpler option, charge it via USB-C and go. The external 18650 version gives you the ability to swap batteries on the go, but the 18650 cell is sold separately, so pick one up before you start. Always insert the battery positive-end first (towards the top of the device) and screw the battery door back down firmly.
Priming the Coil
The kit ships with the Geekvape Z Sub-Ohm 2021 tank and two coils. Before you fill the tank, prime whichever coil you plan to use first.
- Unscrew the base of the tank to access the coil chamber
- Remove the coil and apply three or four drops of your e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton wicking ports
- Refit the coil, lining up the tabs at the base so they seat correctly, then screw the base back on
- Fill the tank, then leave it to stand for five minutes before your first vape
The kit includes a 0.2-ohm coil (rated 70 to 80W) and a 0.4-ohm coil (rated 50 to 60W). If you are running the external 18650 version, we would start with the 0.4-ohm coil at around 50 to 55W. It draws less power and your battery will last noticeably longer between swaps or charges.
Filling the Tank
The Z tank uses a side-fill mechanism. Turn the top section approximately a quarter turn to reveal the two fill ports on the side, pour your e-liquid into one of the slots, then rotate the top back to close. UK-sold units hold 2ml under TPD regulations, so you will need to top up more frequently than the full 5ml capacity suggests, but the fill process is quick once you have done it once.
Which E-Liquid to Use
At 0.2 or 0.4 ohm, this is a sub-ohm DTL setup. You want a high-VG e-liquid, 70% VG or above. Thin 50/50 liquids will leak through mesh coils at these resistances and will not deliver the flavour or cloud production you are expecting.
- Shortfill e-liquids (50ml or 100ml in a larger bottle) are the natural match here. Add a nic shot if you want a nicotine hit, keeping it at or below 20mg/ml in the finished mix
- Pre-mixed high-VG liquids work equally well if you prefer a ready-to-vape option
- Avoid 50/50 nic salts in this tank. They are designed for low-wattage, higher-resistance pod kits and will not perform well here
Operating Modes
Press the fire button three times to cycle through the available modes: Smart, Power, Boosting, Memory, and ECO. Smart Mode is the easiest starting point as it reads your coil and suggests an appropriate power range automatically. Memory Mode stores up to five custom settings, useful if you switch between coils or prefer different wattage levels at different times.
Bio-Sense Touch Lock
The Aegis Solo 3 uses Geekvape's palm-recognition touch lock. The device locks automatically when you set it down and unlocks when you grip the back panel. You can also configure it to use the button lock or leave it fully unlocked via the settings menu (fire button three times, scroll to lock settings). The touch lock is worth keeping active if the device is going in a pocket or bag.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 built-in battery and the external battery version?
The built-in version has a 3000mAh battery charged via USB-C and is the more straightforward option. The external 18650 version accepts a single 18650 cell (sold separately), which lets you carry a spare and swap rather than wait for a charge. Both versions output up to 100W and share the same chipset and features.
What coils does the Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 use?
The Solo 3 ships with the Geekvape Z Sub-Ohm 2021 tank, which uses Geekvape Z-Series coils. The kit includes a 0.2-ohm vertical mesh coil and a 0.4-ohm vertical mesh coil. Both are sub-ohm and designed for DTL vaping. The full Z-Series coil range is compatible, giving you several resistance options.
Is the Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 waterproof?
Yes. The Aegis Solo 3 carries an IP68 rating, meaning it is rated dustproof and waterproof, and has shock resistance built in. It is the same tri-proof protection the Aegis series has always been known for, making it a solid choice if your device takes a regular beating or you vape outdoors a lot.
Why does my Aegis Solo 3 tank only hold 2ml when the spec says 5ml?
The full 5ml capacity applies in non-UK markets. In the UK, tanks are limited to 2ml under TPD regulations. Your kit will have shipped with a 2ml-compliant glass already fitted. The tank design and fill mechanism are identical, you just need to top up more often.
What wattage should I run the Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 at?
Start at the lower end of whichever coil's rated range you are using: around 50 to 55W for the 0.4-ohm coil, or 70W for the 0.2-ohm. Adjust upward in single-watt steps until the flavour and warmth feel right. Running a single-battery mod at maximum wattage will drain the battery quickly, so finding your preferred vape in the middle of the range is worth the effort.
Can I use the Geekvape Aegis Solo 3 mod with a different tank?
Yes. The Aegis Solo 3 mod has a standard spring-loaded, gold-plated 510 connection. It will work with any 510-compatible sub-ohm tank. Tanks up to around 24 to 25mm diameter sit flush without overhang. Wider atomisers will work electrically but may look and feel slightly unbalanced on the compact chassis.
