Set up guide & tips
Charging Before First Use
The DotPod Max charges via Type-C at 5V/2A. Before your first vape, give it a full charge.
Choosing Your Pod and Coil
The DotPod Max uses two pod formats. Integrated coil pods come in 0.4Ω, 0.6Ω, and 1.0Ω resistances. Alternatively, you can fit an empty pod cartridge and install a separate DotCoil, including the 0.3Ω option, which gives you more flexibility when it is time to swap coils.
- 0.3Ω and 0.4Ω: DTL vaping, open airflow, higher wattage. Pair with high-VG shortfill or 50/50 e-liquid.
- 0.6Ω: A mid-point resistance that works for RDL or a relaxed DTL draw.
- 1.0Ω: MTL vaping, restricted airflow, lower wattage. Well suited to 50/50 e-liquid or nicotine salt up to 20mg/ml.
Priming Your Coil
Do not skip priming. Firing a dry coil ruins it immediately and produces a harsh, burnt taste that does not recover. For guidance on how to prime correctly, refer to our coil priming guide. The general rule is to add e-liquid, let the pod sit for several minutes before the first puff, and take a few gentle dry draws to pull liquid into the wicking material.
Filling the Pod
The DotPod Max pods use a bottom-fill port. Remove the pod from the device, locate the silicone fill port, and push your e-liquid nozzle in to fill. Avoid overfilling and reseat the pod firmly before firing.
E-liquid and TPD Compliance
UK TPD rules cap nicotine e-liquid bottles at 10ml and nicotine strength at 20mg/ml. The DotPod Max pods hold enough liquid for extended sessions, but check your local compliance rules. For DTL use at lower resistances, nicotine-free shortfills or freebase e-liquid at 3mg to 6mg are the practical choice. For MTL at 1.0Ω, nicotine salts at 10mg to 20mg or freebase at 6mg to 12mg give a satisfying draw without harshness.
Adjusting Wattage
Power is adjusted via the single fire button. Consult the screen readout, which displays wattage, battery level, resistance, and puff count across three selectable themes: Core, Volt, and Mech. Set wattage to the lower end of your coil's recommended range first, then increase to taste. Five clicks powers the device on or off, three clicks locks it.

- Screen shows 'Check Atomizer' or the device won't fire The screen displays 'Check Atomizer' when you try to fire, or the device simply refuses to fire. This means the device cannot detect the pod or its coil.
- Screen shows 'Chip Too Hot' and the device has stopped firing The screen is displaying 'Chip Too Hot' and the device has cut out and will not fire. This is a built-in thermal protection kicking in because the internal temperature has reached or exceeded 75°C.
- Screen shows 'Resistance Too High' and the device won't fire The screen displays 'Resistance Too High' and pressing the fire button does nothing. The device has detected a coil or pod resistance above its supported range and locked out firing as a safety measure.
- Screen shows 'Resistance Too Low' and the device won't fire The screen displays 'Resistance Too Low' and the device refuses to fire. This protection triggers when the detected coil resistance falls below the minimum threshold the device will accept.
Frequently asked questions
What coils does the DotPod Max take?
The DotPod Max uses integrated coil pods in 0.4Ω, 0.6Ω, and 1.0Ω, or you can fit an empty DotPod Max cartridge with a separate DotCoil, including a 0.3Ω option. All integrated pod versions are direct replacements with no separate coil to install.
What is the DotPod Max RBA option?
RBA adapter use with the DotPod Max is a popular search, but we recommend sticking to the official DotCoil system using the empty pod cartridge format for a reliable, safe vape. Always check DotMod's current compatibility documentation before fitting any non-standard component.
What is the difference between the DotPod Max and the DotPod Max V1.5?
The V1.5 upgrades the original with a larger 0.87-inch colour display (up from 0.69-inch black and white), a bumped battery of 2,100mAh (up from 2,000mAh), and three selectable screen themes. Pod and coil compatibility remains the same across both versions.
Does the DotPod Max work with any e-liquid?
Yes. With the right coil and airflow setup the DotPod Max handles freebase, nicotine salt, shortfill, and 50/50 e-liquids. Use high-VG or 50/50 for DTL coils; 50/50 or nic salt for the 1.0Ω MTL setup. UK nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20mg/ml under TPD regulations.
Is the DotPod Max Damas edition the same device?
Yes. Damas is a finish option, not a different product. The Damas edition shares the same power output, battery capacity, coil range, and display as other DotPod Max colour variants. It differs only in its patterned aluminium finish.
What e-liquid is best for the DotPod Max at 1.0Ω for MTL?
Nicotine salts between 10mg and 20mg work well at 1.0Ω with the airflow tightened down. The restricted draw and lower wattage suit the smoother throat hit that nic salts provide. Freebase at 6mg to 12mg is also a solid option if you prefer a slightly sharper hit.
