The Xlim Pro 3 for most people: 1500mAh, a 1.05 inch colour screen and compatibility with every Xlim pod. Take the GO 2 instead if you want auto-draw firing and nothing to set up, the SQ Pro 2 for the largest battery in the range at 1600mAh, or the GO Lite if pocket size matters more than battery life.

Battery and screen. The Pro 3 runs a 1500mAh battery with a 1.05 inch colour screen, the Pro 2 a 1300mAh battery with a 0.56 inch one. Both cover 5 to 30W and both take the same pods, so neither choice locks you out of anything later. The Pro 2 comes in 19 finishes against the 15 on the Pro 3.

Xlim V3 pods fit the current kits: Pro 3, 3 Ultra, Pro 2, Pro 2 DNA, SQ Pro 2, GO 2, GO Lite and SE. Xlim EZ pods fit those same kits and reach further back as well, to the Xlim Classic, SE 2, SQ Pro, GO and V2. Neither fits the Xlim C. Both hold 2ml and come in packs of three.

One to two weeks for most vapers. The coil is sealed inside the pod, so the pod is what gets replaced rather than a separate coil, and the signal is flavour going flat or a faintly burnt edge on the inhale. Sweet and heavily sweetened liquids clog a coil faster than a plain fruit or a menthol, so the same pod can last a fortnight on one flavour and half that on another.

It is not measured in puffs. Every Xlim is refillable, so how long it runs comes down to the 2ml pod, the resistance fitted and how hard you vape, rather than a number fixed at the factory. A 1000mAh GO Lite needs charging sooner than a 1600mAh SQ Pro 2, and both keep going as long as you keep filling them.

Three worth knowing. The coil is built into the pod, so restocking means a fresh pod every week or two rather than a cheaper coil every month. The metal bodied kits are heavier than a plastic starter kit, at 77.4g for the Pro 3 against 41.5g for the GO Lite. And on the kits with smart wattage the chipset picks the power for you, which is not what a manual vaper wants.

A 50/50 nic salt suits the 0.8 and 1.2ohm pods and the tighter mouth to lung draw they give. The 0.4 and 0.6ohm pods open the draw out and take a 50/50 or a slightly higher VG mix. Yes, for anyone happy to refill a pod. Every kit in the range gives an MTL or RDL draw rather than the loose draw of a sub-ohm tank, and the pods click in without any coil to fit or prime separately. The GO 2 is the most straightforward, because it fires on the draw and sets its own wattage. The kits with screens give you more to learn if you want it.

They are two separate ranges and the pods are not shared. Xlim kits take Xlim V3 and EZ pods, NeXlim kits take NeXlim pods, and neither pod fits the other family. Xlim is the longer running of the two. If you are weighing them up, the NeXlim range sits alongside this one.

It depends which kit you have. The auto-draw kits, including the GO 2, have no power button at all: you inhale and they fire.
