About shortfills

A shortfill is a nicotine-free e-liquid sold in a bottle bigger than the liquid inside it, leaving empty space for a nicotine shot. That gap is why they're legal to sell in the larger sizes: UK rules cap nicotine-containing bottles at 10ml, so shortfills stay at 0mg and you add strength yourself. It's the format that makes sense once you're getting through a fair amount of e-liquid, since one bottle plus a shot or two lasts far longer than a handful of 10ml bottles.

Every shortfill on this page is a 100ml bottle, some supplied in a slightly larger 120ml bottle to leave working room for your shot. You'll choose between 70/30 (VG-heavy, best for sub-ohm tanks and big clouds) and 50/50 (thinner, closer to what a pod kit or MTL setup wants).

Flavour-wise this range runs from Fantasi's ice fruits and remix blends, through Just Juice's Iconic, Exotic Fruits and Brutal Drinks ranges, to straightforward mint and berry pours from Ohm Brew and Doozy Vape Co. If you'd rather skip the mixing step entirely, our nic salts and freebase ranges come ready-mixed in 10ml bottles.

  • 100ml shortfills, most in 70/30 VG/PG, some in 50/50
  • Sold at 0mg nicotine, ready for you to add a shot
  • Brands: Fantasi, Just Juice, Doozy Vape Co, Ohm Brew, Ruthless

How to choose your next shortfill liquid

Pick your ratio first

This is the decision that matters most. If you're running a sub-ohm tank or a cloud-focused kit, choose 70/30: the extra VG carries flavour well and produces thicker vapour. If your setup is a pod kit or anything built for a tighter, mouth-to-lung draw, a 50/50 shortfill behaves much more like the e-liquid it was designed for, since the higher PG content keeps it thin enough to wick properly in smaller coils. Both 70/30 and 50/50 shortfills sit in this range, so check the ratio on the bottle before you add to basket.

Work out your nicotine shot

A shortfill arrives at 0mg. Add a 10ml freebase nic shot to bring it up to strength; one shot into a 100ml bottle gets you a moderate strength, two shots gets you higher. If you'd rather have nic salts pre-mixed at a set strength without doing the maths, our nic salts range skips the shot step entirely.

Choose your flavour lane

  • Fruit and ice: Fantasi's ice range and remixes, Just Juice's Exotic Fruits
  • Fizzy drinks and cocktails: Just Juice's Brutal Drinks range and Iconic Lemonade
  • Mint and menthol: Just Juice's Red, Green and Blue Mint
  • Berry and classic fruit: Iconic Berry Burst, Iconic Blue Raspberry

In day to day use, most people find a 70/30 mix holds its flavour well over a longer session and refills a sub-ohm tank without much fuss, while a 50/50 bottle feels closer to what you're used to if you've come from smaller e-liquid bottles.

Which kit does it go in?

Shortfills are built for tanks that take a decent volume of liquid, whether that's a sub-ohm kit or a refillable pod kit. Not sure what you're running? Start at vape kits or browse the full e-liquid range for other formats.

If you want a specific house style, Just Juice, Fantasi and Doozy Shortfills are all worth a browse on their own pages.

Shortfills FAQs

What are shortfills?

Shortfills are 0mg e-liquids sold in a bottle larger than the amount of liquid inside, leaving space for a nicotine shot. It's the format that lets shops sell big bottles legally, since nicotine-containing e-liquid is capped at 10ml under UK rules. You buy the shortfill, then add your own strength.

How do I use a shortfill?

Open the bottle, squeeze out a little liquid if there's no headroom, then pour in your nic shot. Pop the nozzle back on, give it a good shake, and let it settle for a few minutes before you fill your tank, since freshly mixed liquid can look a bit cloudy at first.

What nicotine strength will I end up with?

It depends how many shots you add. One 10ml freebase shot into a 100ml shortfill gives a lighter strength, two shots gets you higher. Check the maths before you mix, since UK rules cap nicotine strength at 20mg/ml once it's all combined.

Can I use a shortfill in a pod kit?

Yes, as long as your pod kit is refillable rather than a sealed prefilled pod. A 50/50 shortfill tends to suit a pod kit better than a 70/30 mix, since the thinner liquid wicks more easily in smaller coils. See our refillable pod kits if you need a device.

Should I add a freebase or nic salt shot?

Shortfills are designed to be topped up with a freebase nic shot, not a nic salt one, since salts are formulated for smaller, ready-mixed bottles rather than large-volume mixing. If you want nic salts, buy them pre-mixed at the strength you want from our nic salts range instead.

What sizes do shortfills come in?

Shortfills are commonly sold in 50ml and 100ml bottles. Everything in this range is a 100ml shortfill, some supplied in a slightly bigger 120ml bottle to leave room for your nic shot without spilling.
